For TiTo Gin is In!

Apparently Vodka is the happening, "in crowd drink" these days. I agree a good vodka is nice to have now and again, but Gin definitely holds a special a place in my book. With tonic and a lime I prefer Tanqueray, but if it’s gonna be straight Gin then it’s gotta be Sapphire.
Did you know that Gin was quite fashionable long before vodka found its niche? There are still stories of how its use in old London was widespread and epidemic, likened to heroine use. In fact Gin has a long and varied history, but Rather than reiterating the details here I will simply just provide a LINK to the wikipedia entry… it contains much
interesting information for the Gin connoisseur.
So What is the most famous Gin drink? It has to be the original Martini… Gin, a hint of vermouth (if you must), and an olive or two. I like my martini dirty… toilet bowl dirty if you will. That would be Sapphire Gin (my favorite) and olive juice shaken vigorously over ice and strained into a nicely chilled martini glass... two olives are a must for this bad boy. Although Vodka Martinis seem to dominate the market today, surely brought on by the mass popularity of the James Bonds films, for me the taste of Gin adds a complexity to the Martini which vodka just cannot achieve.
Besides… you know Gin is the $H!T if Snoop Dogg is going to do a song about it:
(gots my mind on my money and my money on my mind)
NOW… I need you all to leave blog comments about YOUR favorite drink and why that is.
DO IT!
So sayeth the TiTo
