FINALLY… TiTo’s Movie Reviews - Part 2 (of 4)

And so it begins again… another movie review. This time around we’ll be taking a look at the movie list from December, 2008. There’s an oscar winner, some stuff we’ve talked about before, another obscure pick – but this time from Ogre, and a classic that everyone should see. So let’s get started shall we?!

THE DESCENT INTO MADNESS!
mwha ha ha ha ha ha!

December 4th, 2008 I picked out an old 80’s movie for the group that none of us had seen before. No one really thought it could be all that good, as there really isn’t any action per say in the entire film. But, there HAD to be a reason this movie garnered Oscar buzz, and I wanted to know what it was. And if it sucked I wanted there to be others there to join in my misery. And with the current financial state of the world as it is, this movie just seemed appropriate for the times. With powerhouse actors Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen in the lead roles, spiced up with a side or James Spader (in a role where he’s not an overzealous sex freak) and a very boinkable young Daryl Hannah - for cripes sake even MARTIN Sheen was in the movie playing Charlie’s dad - the expectations for Wall Street were pretty high. Those expectations were met… and well exceeded. There’s nothing I can write here that Stevo can’t put more eloquently in his video review below.

You can call me greedy if you like… I still have all your money you stupid sucker!
And the Trailer…

You don't have to buy it tho if you don't want to... we know times are tough.

December 11th, 2008 was another night devoted to catching up on Battlestar Galactica. We’d done a few marathons since the last time we’d converted movie night for the occasion, and I believe we were almost ready to start the first episodes of season 4. But before we could do that, we had to watch “Razor”, a flashback, gap filler inner kind of segue movie between seasons. Not really a stand alone kind of movie, if you don’t follow the series, then much of the content will not make any sense to you, so I won’t go on and on and on and on and on and on and on about it. It kicks ass by the way.

Oh my gods! It’s space razors! SPRAZORS!!!

Ogre brought us a movie his dad thinks is the bomb. A historical epic. That aired exclusively on HBO. And then dvd. Although released in 2001, it’s apparently only something that history buffs knew about… like Ogre’s dad. The first 20 minutes of this movie may well be the funniest 20 minutes you will ever experience in your life. Even if all you watch is the first 20 minutes, it will be 20 minutes well spent. And should you choose to watch the entire film, you will become more powerful with the knowledge it bestows upon you. Ok, not really, but it is an interesting look into the minds of the constructors of the final solution. AND it has Stanley's Tucci! I LOVE Stanly's Tucci. It's so well rounded!

Oh my gods! It’s space nazis! SPNAZIS!!! (minus the space)

Heil Hitler! **

(**Please note that if you have seen this movie then you likely have just about wet your pants with laughter. If not, then know now this is not in any way an indication of approval.**)

Christmas of 2008 just happened to fall on a movie night. Did that stop us from our weekly meeting of debauchery… and ahhh… movie watching? NO! And since it was Christmas we had no choice but to go with a Christmas flick. No… not Miracle on 34th St. Not even The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. No. We chose something a little more festive. Bob Clark is likely most famous for his hit 1983 movie “A Christmas Story”. That’s not what we watched either. Well, maybe, earlier in the day during the 24 hour marathon on TBS. But on THIS movie night we picked something from further back in Bob Clark’s past… Black Chrismas. This 1974 classic was another genre setting event in motion pictures, starring a faceless antagonist with no motive and an ending with… ahhh… no ending?

OHHHHH BILLY!

For being made in 1974, this is a pretty good flick. Don’t bother with the 2006 remake though. Can you say SUCKS! Why do they do that?!?!

And that kids concludes part two of FINALLY… TiTo’s Movie Reviews. I’ll get back up on the high horse this weekend and jam out another one for you. Or maybe I’ll just get up high… and not come back down til the weekend is over. Time will tell.
