My NEW Favourite Word
By Stevo | November 19, 2009
as some of you are aware, i am somewhat of a wordsmith. i like words. big words, see.recently i was watching a video of a discussion with Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson Ph.D., host of the PBS program NOVA scienceNOW as well as Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History. While answering a question from a student, the famed astrophysicist used a word that piqued my curiosity: Sesquipedalian.
sounds like a seven-legged creature, doesn't it?

according to Dictionary.com, sesquipedalian is defined as that which is given to using long words, or of a word containing many syllables. that being said, sesquipedalian itself is a sesquipedalian word. its origins are in the latin sēsquipedālis, or measuring a foot and a half.
so there you have it! stevothe2amguy's NEW FAVOURITE WORD! if you read this far, you clearly have nothing but time on your hands. thank you.
