Stranded southwest Alaska woman dies off tundra trail

BETHEL, Alaska (AP) – Alaska State Troopers say a southwest Alaska woman died after her snowmachine turned onto its side in bitter cold temperatures. Searchers found the body of 22-year-old Elizanna Anvil on Friday. Anvil and a partner on Thursday afternoon traveled 22 from Nunapitchuk to Bethel and ran into trouble on the way back when their snowmachine overturned. Anvil’s travel partner walked to Nunapitchuk and a search was launched. She was found dead about 2 miles off a main tundra trail and 4 miles from the snowmachine. The temperature was 8 below zero with wind chill between 20 and 30 below zero.
