UA faculty group details concerns about university president
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) – The University of Alaska Anchorage faculty senate has written to the Board of Regents expressing concerns about university system President James Johnsen.
KTVF-TV reported Wednesday that the letter signed by Faculty Senate President Scott Downing says the educators are “deeply concerned” about Johnsen’s leadership.
The letter refers to instances it says raise questions about Johnsen’s authority including ignoring the need for inclusive dialogue.
The statement comes two days after the university received a warning about meeting accreditation standards from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
A university official says the board has indicated it “would consider all options to reduce administrative costs and increase efficiency.”
The official says the regents are expected to meet next week to formulate a “detailed response to faculty governance and to the NWCCU.”
