Woman on trial charged with stealing evidence – her own gun
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) – An Alaska woman on trial for waving a gun around inside a bar has been charged with stealing the same gun from an evidence box near the judge’s bench.
Alaska State Troopers say 29-year-old Tiffany Flenaugh during a break in the trial Tuesday carried the .45-caliber pistol out of the courthouse and hid it in snow.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports police arrested Flenaugh as she re-entered the courthouse.
She is represented by the Alaska Public Defender’s Office, which declined comment.
Flenaugh was on trial for assault and weapons misconduct.
Prosecutors say Flenaugh in October 2018 was intoxicated and was refused service at a bar. Police say she then pulled out the loaded handgun.
She faces new charges of theft, possessing a firearm in a courthouse and evidence tampering.
